Here’s our next Volunteer Story! Julia is our Intake Coordinator and a fabulous Foster Mom!

“Hey, I’m Julia! I’m a pharmacy tech at Sandhills Regional Medical Center. I have my own home based bakery (Brown Eyed Bakers), and I’m a full time student. My loving and supporting fiance and I have 3 dogs: two labs and a cheagle. I came across the Humane Society of Marlboro County while dining at a local restaurant one evening. I noticed they had a money jar with all the cute adoptable animals on it. I started looking at their website immediately for more information. I knew this would be a great opportunity for me since the company I was with for 7 yrs moved over 2 hours away, and I took a layoff and hadn’t found employment in months. This would be something to keep me busy. I called Jennifer Hyduke and I starting helping out the next night.

The most rewarding thing I’ve gained from volunteering is fostering. I started fostering for the Humane Society of Marlboro County a few weeks after volunteering and it has been the best experience ever! When I tell people about fostering they ask how can I let them go or they say that they wouldn’t be able to do it. Here’s the answer: Yes, it’s hard, but when you see how happy they are with their furever family and know that you’ve made a difference in their life, it makes every tear shed worth it!”

Become a Volunteer and make a Difference! The Humane Society of Marlboro County is ALL volunteer run and we could some extra helping hands.

Choose what you want to do for your hour a week: Walk dogs, bathe dogs, give medicine, clean, feed, wash dog/cat bowls, help in the cat room.
