We have a wonderful Success Story to share with you all! This is Rosie who we pulled from the Marlboro County Animal Shelter last year in the flurry of activity just after the videos and photos were made public. Rosie was sent to a Rottie rescue group up north and has now found her Forever Home!

Here is a note from her new family who adore her:
“I wanted to tell you how great Rosie is doing! She is such an awesome dog. Lovable, playful, obedient, great with my kids and very tolerant of my one year old We are amazed at how well she listens and how fast she learns. Whoever didn’t want her, sure did miss out! We love her and feel so lucky to have her!!
Thank you so much for bringing her up to PA so we could find her and bring her into our lives. We feel like it was meant to be!”

Marley’s Story

Last week, our volunteer photographer, Trish Suiter Dooling, arrived at the county shelter to take photos of the new animals. She found Marley, a shepherd/lab mix with a steel trap injury to his front paw. His paw was swollen, with bone and sinew exposed and worst of all, the Animal Control Officer said he had been there for days! No effort was made to treat Marley, who was in excruciating pain. The Humane Society immediately pulled him and got him to the vet. Poor Marley was scheduled to have his foot amputated most likely because of the lack of medical attention during the days he sat at the county shelter.

Update from our Facebook page on November 8th: The unexpected death of Marley has saddened us all. I want to clarrify a few things concerning what happened with him. He was pulled from the shelter and transported directly to the vets office. Marley was examined and the doctor found that this was an old injury (probably weeks to months old) and there were nerve paralysis in the leg which mean that he had no feeling in the leg and was in no pain. Due to some unexpected emergencies during the weekend Marley’s surgery was posponed until yesterday. While recovering from anesthesia Marley went into cardiac arrest and despite working on Marley for close to an hour to revive him, he died. There is always a risk with anesthesia and sometimes we don’t know why these things happen

The County Council meeting is tomorrow night. Please, if you are local, come and support the Humane Society’s efforts to give these animals a voice:

6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 8, 2011
William Kinney Meeting Room of the Marian Wright Edelman Public Library
203 Fayetteville Avenue
Bennettsville, SC

All meetings are open to the public with the exception of Executive Sessions.

Most have skin conditions and various injuries (hershey needs her tail amputated) MANY are so emaciated we must give them a chance to gain weight and feel better before putting them through spay/neuter surgery. Several are TERRIFIED and need time to readjust before any medical care can be addressed. MARLBORO IS HELL ON EARTH FOR ANIMALS! Please network the pics and video that show the world the conditions animals are forced to live in. SOMEONE will see them and be in a position to DEMAND CHANGE! in the meantime please donate and share our chipin so we can continue to care for the animals we have and hopefully pull more out soon. THANK YOU to all who support us in getting these dogs safe!
