Support
The Humane Society of Marlboro County does not have control of the city or county shelters yet, though we are in the process. Therefore, we have very limited access to the facilities and are not allowed at this time to make improvements due to liability reasons. We know the conditions you see in the photos are deplorable and we too want to charge in and clean this place up and repair the building. Many of you have volunteered your time and materials to do so. As soon as we are given permission and access to these facilities, we will announce a clean up day. If you would like to be notified when this happens, please sign up in the righthand column. In the meantime, here are some other ways you can help us now:
You can donate to the Chip In Link above or through the Donations buttons on the right. You do not have to have a Paypal account to donate. Consider setting up a monthly donation for your convenience.
You may also mail in a check to the Humane Society at P.O. Box 135, Bennettsville, SC 29512.
Your donations go towards vetting, feeding and boarding the animals we pull from the shelters. It costs an average of $300 per dog to get them up to date on all shots, spayed or neutered, fed and fostered in order to be transported to a rescue who has made a commitment for them. Even $5 can make a difference!
Grant Writer Volunteer: A professional grant writer could help provide funding to continue moving forward in our mission to build a new facility.
Cargo Van: To transport animals when we pull them from the shelter and transport them to boarding facilities and vets.
Washer/Dryer: For when we do take over the county facility to enable us to provide and wash blankets.
Ongoing
Purina Dog Chow, dry food
Purina Cat Chow, dry food
Food Storage Containers that are rat proof
The county shelter does not have enough food to properly feed all the animals. We are trying to assist in providing them with enough food so the dogs in their facility do not starve. We also provide food for our fosters. We need dry dog and cat food, kitten food and kitty litter as well as rat proof containers to store them in. If you have food to donate, please email us at humanesocietyofmarlborocounty@yahoo.com. Thank you!
Raised Beds
Update: Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to purchase 20 raised beds for the runs at the County Shelter. (Nov. 2011). No new beds are needed until we take over operations and are able to build more runs.
Animals at the county and city shelters in Marlboro currently sleep on cold, wet concrete. They have no blankets and only a few raised plastic beds that Scotland County Humane Society so generously donated to us recently. Please consider donating a Raised bed to get these animals off the concrete floors and provide them with some sort of comfort in these horrible circumstances. It will be shipped directly to us and we will deliver them to the shelters.
A Note About Blankets
The shelters do not have laundry facilities so if a blanket was donated, it will probably be discarded once it gets soiled. However, if you would like to collect blankets or even crochet some blankets with a circle of friends, we will be able to use them once we take over the county facility and get a washer and dryer in place to launder them.

Thank you for your caring and support for these homeless animals.

I just wanted to stop by and thank you so much for helping the animals in the Marlboro County Shelter! I saw the video and am horrified at what I saw! Are they going to shut that shelter down? Would it help to contact the media about this? I’m in Wisconsin but I’m willing to do anything to help. This is just so sad. And also thank you for convincing them to stop using the gas chamber. The thought of those chambers gives me nightmares.
